Hannibal goes Frontend United
This weekend it was the Frontend United, the international Drupal-event which descended on Ghent for the occasion. 3 of our creative warriors were there.
Harry Roberts opened the event with a session on how best to optimize CSS using SASS. This was followed by an explanation of how to best use color on websites by Natalya Shelburne.
Prototyping was also discussed, something that can be very useful for bringing a design to life with fairly simple code. This can be used especially on larger projects, to see how the design will effectively look before the effective programming work begins.
Morten gave a very engaging talk around Drupal 8 theming. Drupal 8 is the latest version of Drupal that we at Hannibal will start using step by step in the coming months for the development of new sites.
Then there was a bit of an explanation of Flexbox. Flexbox gives us an additional ability to position elements for all devices separately. Baris Wanschers talked about the best use of Schema to optimize your site's SEO. This way we can fully tune our sites for different search engines.
On Saturday, both Roy Scholten and Karl Gilis spoke about how to customize a site for the best user experience. Lesson of the day: the best sites are not only modern and responsive, but also user-friendly. Small details such as button positioning, photo and text placement can already make a world of difference. The usability of sites can be tested with different tools. Based on these results, we can work toward a site where customers can use the site with the best ease of use. Something we at Hannibal have known for some time, but a little refresher can't hurt.
